ANOTHER NEW ASSET SIGNED

LEICESTER Speedway are delighted to announce the signing of former British Youth racer Mickie Simpson as a full asset of the club.

Simpson’s signing is a further indication of the policy of investing in young talent, and he should shortly be able to line up for the Roger Webster Lion Cubs.

Unfortunately Simpson, who turns 17 on Friday, is currently sidelined with finger and wrist injuries after a practice crash at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena, but he hopes to get the go-ahead from hospital checks in the near future.

He said: “It’s nice to get the opportunity with such a good club, with how professional they are, and I feel it will be really good for me.

“I got to a couple of new tracks last year with the British Youth so it was good to have that variety, and it’s going to be nice this year in the National League because I’ll get to ride lots of different tracks, so it will be a new experience everywhere I go.

“I broke my little finger when I crashed and I’ve got a little crack in my wrist, but hopefully more X-rays will bring me good news.”

Leicester co-promoter Stewart Dickson said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Mickie to the club, and it shows the long-term view we’re taking with signing riders.

“We have our spies out everywhere, and I very much like Mickie’s enthusiasm and keenness, so he’s very worthy of the opportunity with us.”
